About Simple River
Simple River emerged out of a passion to find a better way of living and a desire to create intentional community around the notion of simplicity. Three years ago we sent out our first one-page newsletter to about 30 people, and several more quickly followed. The newsletters were meant to be a quick and informative read on issues related to lifestyle balance, environmental stewardship, social justice, sustainable living, spiritual growth, community and family development (none of which are really all that simple of course). Instantly the newsletters gained new subscribers and today we have members receiving a two-page newsletter from all 50 U.S. states and from over 15 countries around the world.
Our goal is to move beyond thinking of simplicity as merely just cutting back on excess, but rather a willing engagement in the difficult process of finding the base truth in our lives and then trying to live that truth out everyday. It’s about a way of living that draws us into real community with each other and into a genuine spiritual relationship with God. Its about a way of living that doesn't allow us to simply let the world go by without getting involved. Its about discovering who and what we are meant to be and then living that out to the fullest extent possible. In the end, Simpler River is about a community of people who are trying (with various success) to do this everyday. In some ways then, simple living is quite complex, but it need not be confusing. While we humans are duplicitous creatures to a fault, we all can find great sanctuary and freedom when in obedience to simplicity.
